You also want a builder who is committed to that location long-term and will be around in a few years if needed.

Finally, it is very important that a builder have a specific process and systems in place for communicating effectively. Custom builds often occur at a remote distance and if a builder cannot show you the site or materials or get your approval when you cannot physically be there, then you are going to have a problem.
